Yes, Wall Hall, that is IT, well done that man! That building could tell some tales... Your Mrs was there a bit later than my g/f then, all my visiting down there was 75/76/77 at a guess. Happy days. The whole of the 70s was just bloody brilliant for me, especially 1976, the Long Hot Summer...

Mike - looks like it's all a posh private development now.

I had a friend who was sat alone in a packed restaurant in Houston. The waitress was trying frantically to find a table for two guys. The two guys looked a bit weird, but she told the waitress that she didn't mind if they sat at her table. The waitress said 'thanks but I'll find somewhere for them' but one of the guys said 'No it's ok we don't mind sitting with our new Brit friend' and sat down at her table.

She said they were nice and had a good conversation with them. She was concerned though when people kept coming up and asking for their autographs, but being a Brit thought it impolite to ask what was going on. Only later did she find out they were Billy Gibbons and Dusty Hill from ZZ Top!

Stefan Edberg got into my Dad's taxi with a bag full of rackets and my old man innocently asked him if he played much tennis.

"Yes, I won Wimbledon last week" was his reply.

i was on the train from bristol to cardiff, walking through the carriage, saw a bloke i recognised, but couldn't quite place, stuck my hand out to shake his hand and say hello, at which point i realised i didn't actually know him, but it was Darren Gough
panicked, withdrew hand and walked passed without saying anything
to this day i struggle with how ridiculous that must have looked (2006 on the way to cup final)

There have been quite a few names bandied about on this thread and to be honest some of them mean nothing to me. Have we reached a time whereby it’s possible to be famous without being well known?

Actress Emma Chambers is HOVIS! Heart attack at 53. So in traditional WHO style you should have insisted she had it that night after hours of passion with your 11'' slong.

I lived in Borehamwood for ten years and used to bump in to film crews all the time.

One day someone asked if they could use my house and front garden to do some filming for Grange Hill. I said no so they used my neighbour instead.

You knew if you saw someone in a bikini in winter they were shooting a scene for a Confessions film.

The only time it was a nuisance for anyone was when they recreated a night time blitz scene for the Harrison Ford film Hanover Street.

Back in my Agency days I showed Rochelle Hume around a plush gaff, didn't realise it was her until a colleague mentioned it.

That's as good as it gets.

Not me, but my uncle has a couple of crackers.

Back in the late 80s, early 90s, he was at a charity event and was sat next to a guy with curly blonde hair. (I should say at this point that he has zero interest in football apart from the odd cursory question to my old man about how West Ham are getting on.).He said he was a lovely bloke and they sat and chatted about various things for most of the evening. He noticed quite a few people asking for pictures with him but never bothered enquiring as to why...at the end of the night the blonde guy thanked him for being such good company and said how great it was to speak with someone who didn't want to talk about football - then off he went. My old man spoke to him after the even finished and asked him if he got an autograph...he was completely oblivious to the fact that he'd just spent three hours drinking with Frank McAvennie.

Second story was more recent, he was surveying a big mansion in Essex that was having a kitchen refit. A young scruffy lad came walking in from the garden and started chatting with him. Again, completely oblivious to who he was, he asked what his job was in the mansion - as he had come in from the garden he assumed he was the gardener. The young lad was quite shocked and replied 'erm, I own it...I'm Mark Noble" Still with no idea, he just said something like "wow you must have a decent job", Noble just laughed.

In Cuba in 2005 I was playing with with a young Canadian bloke.

After he left some other Canadians I had been chatting with came over and said "Wow, you know Ribeiro?"

It was Michael Ribeiro, some hotshot ice hockey player.

Of course I replied "yeah, we are pals. Go way back."

Wall Hall! That was it! been racking my brain for ages over the name.

Yeah - the whole area appears in shit-loads of Elstree studio stuff.

Was watching an old episode of The Saint the other day and the junction of the village high street (Watling Street) and the road in which my first house was appeared. Shops either side had changes usage, but the buildings were unmistakable.

Re: Having a chat with famous (ish) people and having no idea who they are.
The teacher training college mentioned below was Wall Hall in Aldenham. My ex-wife went there in 1979. Aldenham village will be familiar to anyone who ever watched The Avengers as it was used in quite a few episodes. Was used a lot for other filming as Elstree Studios nearby.
